Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

In aromatherapy, essential oils are used to promote physical, psychological and spiritual well-being. The plants essence is extracted from its botanical source through a number of means, such as steam distillation. Different parts of the plant, leaves, wood or roots are used depending on the plant.

Our essential oils from Wisdom of the Earth are derived from the purest of sources – organic and biodynamic – and prepared with the purest of methods and without solvents. Except for various “hot” oils, such as cinnamon bark, oregano or ginger, most of our Wisdom of the Earth essential oils can be applied directly to the skin.  The oils are most absorbable though the soles of the feet or along the spinal column.

There are myriad ways to use essential oils:

  • Aroma Bath : Add 4 teaspoons of basic bath oils, cream or honey and 5 to 15 drops of your favorite essential oil to your bath. Your skin and your spirit will both appreciate it.

  • Body Massage: Combine 3 to 4 ounces of your favorite base oil (such as sweet almond, jojoba, grape seed or sesame) with 10 to 25 drops of your essential oil. Enjoy.

  • Facial Steam and Mask: Add 2 drops of essential oil to a bowl of steaming water. “Tent” your head with a towel and breathe deeply for 5 minutes. Then, Mix 2 tablespoons of bentonite, green or white clay with water; add 4 drops of essential oil; apply to face, let dry for 15 minutes and then remove with a wet wash cloth. Apply your favorite Pangea Organics face cream. Note that steaming can be done both for beautiful skin and medicinally to help heal colds, sinus infections and bronchitis (with such oils as eucalyptus or rosemary).

  • Applications in Diffuser with Candle: 2 to 10 drops of essential oil for living rooms, bedrooms or working spaces.

  • Room Spray: Mix 40 drops or anti-microbial essential oils with 3 1/2 ounces of water and 5 milliliters of organic alcohol. Can be used to clean counters and surfaces. For anti-microbial protection, we recommend oils such as lemon eucalyptus, lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, and rosemary, just to name a few.

(Despite this long list below, we carry only a small proportion of Wisdom of the Earth’s full selection. If you do not see your favorite oil on our list, just ask us to order it for you.)

Blessings to you as you journey with these plants.
